5 sessions minimum

The Singapore Leaders Network (SGLN) Fellowship Mentoring Programme aspires to support the personal and professional growth of our SGLN Fellowship participants (i.e. the mentees). The programme aims to create meaningful 1:1 connections between the SGLN Fellows, senior global business leaders, and strengthen the social capital of leaders within the SGLN community.

Programme Outline

This is a flexible programme that will take place over 7 months. Mentors and mentees will meet at their own schedule, with check-ins taking place at the start and end of the mentorship.

Mentee Profile

We have assembled a pioneering cohort of SGLN Fellows that represent the diversity of the SGLN community. They comprise a group of mid-to-senior level Singaporean leaders who come from all walks of life (function, industry etc.). They have been identified as executives with strong potential and aspirations to take on global leadership roles within the next five years.

As part of their Fellowship journey, there will be four key learning outcomes that Fellows will get out of the programme. They will continue working with their companies, as well as their assigned mentors, to develop themselves in these four topic areas:

  • Display new perspectives and motivation to seek out regional/global job exposures to prepare for global leadership roles

  • Embrace a complex, ambiguous environment

  • Create and leverage networks and communicate with clarity and ‘heart’ for impact

  • Embrace and manage diversity by being sensitive to the cultural context and exercising cultural flexibility

Why be a mentee?

Mentoring is a special partnership between two people based on commitment to the mentoring process, common goals/expectations of the partnership, and mutual trust and respect. It is a “get and give” experience with the goal of providing a rich and rewarding experience for both.

Due to the popular demand of our previous two runs of the mentoring programmes, and the excellent feedback we received from both mentees and mentors alike, we have now incorporated mentoring into the SGLN Fellowship itself.

At SGLN, we believe that mentees need to take charge of their own personal/professional development with the benefit of a mentor who will share their personal experiences, insights, and perspectives. Other benefits can include:

  • Developing a sharper and more strategic focus on areas of professional development

  • Developing yourself as “learner” by adopting a continuous learning mindset with active investments in personal growth

  • Developing communication skills through personalised guidance across different interaction contexts

  • Cross-learning opportunities through sharing of experiences and insights that can enrich both mentee and mentor

Mentor Profile

We welcome mentors from all industries – the programme aims to gather collective learnings from the career journeys of our mentors to support the growth and development of our SGLN Fellows.

Ideally, you would have worked for at least 20 years and have global leadership experience, with expertise in at least one of the following topic areas that align with the learning outcomes of the SGLN Fellowship:

  • Display new perspectives and motivation to seek out regional/global job exposures to prepare for global leadership roles

  • Embrace a complex, ambiguous environment

  • Create and leverage networks and communicate with clarity and ‘heart’ for impact

  • Embrace and manage diversity by being sensitive to the cultural context and exercising cultural flexibility

Why be a mentor?

Mentoring is a special partnership between two people based on commitment to the mentoring process, common goals/expectations of the partnership, and mutual trust and respect. It is a “get and give” experience with the goal of providing a rich and rewarding experience for both.

As a mentor, you have the opportunity to reflect on your own achievements and hurdles, reinforcing valuable lessons learned along your journey. Beyond personal growth, mentoring offers a host of other benefits, which can include:

  • Building new and meaningful relationships built on shared success

  • Acquiring fresh insights and ideas from others professional contexts (e.g. cross-industry understandings)

  • Developing your skill as a “teacher” – helping clarify and develop their goals

  • Developing your skills as a “guide” – helping someone navigate their professional challenges

  • Being a part of history in the making by playing a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of globally-minded Singaporean business leaders and leaving a lasting impact on Singapore's talent ecosystem
